Counselling In Cheltenham
A warm welcome to my website
Individual and Couples Counselling
I am a qualified psychodynamic counsellor working in the centre of Cheltenham. I see individuals, couples, students and young people from age 15 upwards. I can provide a confidential service within a safe space to listen and to help you explore your feelings.
I can work with a wide range of difficulties including issues related to:
During our first meeting we can look at your main concerns and we can then consider how to proceed from there. We can discuss whether you would like an agreed number of sessions or whether a more open-ended counselling arrangement would suit you better.
Psychodynamic counselling helps you to develop more awareness of your difficulties and looks at ways in which you can make changes. It entails both of us working together to reflect on your issues rather than me giving you advice or telling you what to do. Part of the counselling may involve looking at patterns in your life which are being repeated.
Mindfulness and being in the present can also contribute to finding a balance as well as increasing your awareness about who you truly are.
I can provide counselling for couples in a neutral space where you and your partner will have the opportunity to begin to understand what is occurring between you. There may be various reasons why you are both considering counselling at this time such as difficulties in communicating, some kind of conflict or because you have encountered a particularly difficult phase in your relationship. I will listen to your issues in a sensitive way whilst taking both points of view into account. Couples counselling usually entails seeing both partners together for a series of counselling sessions.
In addition to my private practice with individuals, couples, students and young people from age 15 upwards I have been seeing students with various issues at a University for the last two years. I also undertake adoption work in relation to adoptive placements which may include reflecting on attachment issues.
Prior to my career as a counsellor I worked for thirty years as a social worker with individuals, young people, children and families within a variety of settings. Through this work I have developed specialist knowledge of pregnancy and childbirth, HIV and AIDS and chronic and terminal illness as well as in-depth knowledge about the impact of attachment issues on relationships.
I have worked for the Gloucestershire Counselling Service (GCS) for several years in Cheltenham, Stroud and Gloucester. Following my initial training at GCS I undertook a post-graduate associate year in psychodynamic counselling in addition to further training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at the Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre. I have subsequently completed a training in Couples Counselling and in Time-Limited Psychodynamic Therapy at the Gloucestershire Counselling Service in addition to undertaking a course in Mindfulness.

It is approximately 18 miles from Cirencester and 10 miles from Gloucester. My Stroud practice is approximately a fifteen-minute walk from the centre of Stroud and approximately 12 miles from Cirencester.

I operate within the BACP ethical framework and regularly participate in further professional development training.
